Literacy is the keystone to our children’s academic success. The new, more demanding standards of Common Core and other state standards require that there is a focus on developing literacy, not only in the English Language Arts classroom, but in all content areas.

Educators are challenged by eliciting knowledge through content-rich non-fiction, providing evidence in reading and writing, and the acquisition of academic vocabulary through the selection and utilization of complex texts.

NAEP’s literacy instruction brings teachers a fresh, experiential, and tangible

strategy for delivering content to students in a way that generates more interest and engagement. These strategies support students to make a paradigm shift in understanding text and analyzing the content more effectively.

As with most content areas, NAEP utilizes its Three-Tier Model for professional development to enhance the delievery of literacy instruction.
